Call Screening Consent
Last updated: 2026-10-27 · Version 2026-10-27.2
Draft for legal review.
This is what you agree to as the protected person when you tap «Accept and continue» in your own FamilyDefender app. Only you can give this consent; your family cannot give it for you.
What happens to your calls
- Calls from numbers you don't know come to FamilyDefender first. Every caller hears, before the conversation starts, that the call is checked automatically to help prevent fraud. If your family turns it on, an automated assistant also asks who is calling and why.
- The call then rings in the FamilyDefender app on your iPhone. With the assistant on, robots are not put through.
- While you talk, both sides are turned into text and checked automatically by computer systems, including AI, for signs of a scam. Checked automatically. No person listens. Nothing is recorded.
- If the call looks risky, you may hear a short tone or a short warning: «Be careful. This may be a scam. You can hang up.»
- In a few listed cases the call can end automatically, and you will hear why: payment by gift cards, card codes or a crypto ATM; reading out card or account numbers after the caller asked for them; someone posing as police, a court or a government office who demands money and secrecy; a caller claiming to be family whom your guardian doesn't recognize; a red warning no one answered for 2 minutes. Your managing guardian can switch some of these off. The caller can always call back.
- Calls from your trusted numbers and your guardians ring straight through.
What your family sees
The guardians you accept get an alert when a call looks risky and can end that call. They see a short summary (who the caller said they were, on whose behalf, the purpose, the risk level, what the app did). They never hear your call or see what was said word for word. You can remove an ordinary guardian at any time.
What we keep
A summary of risky calls and your call history for 90 days. No audio, no transcript.
Please know
- FamilyDefender helps spot scams but cannot catch every one, and it may sometimes warn about or end a real call.
- It is not an emergency service. Calls to 911 are never screened or ended by us. Keep another way to reach 911.
- You can turn protection off in the app at any time, or remove call forwarding with your carrier's code without us. When protection ends, remove call forwarding and confirm it in the app, or calls from unknown numbers may not reach you.
- You are 18 or older.
